RSS Support in New Microsoft Windows Vista

October 14th, 2008

Microsoft Corp. says that the next version of its Windows operating system will have built-in support for RSS, an increasingly popular way to get news and other information channeled straight to a computer.

RSS, short for Really Simple Syndication, hasn’t broken into widespread use yet, but the world’s largest software maker believes it will become a mainstay.

“We really believe that RSS is key to how people will be using the Internet in the future,” said Megan Kidd, a Windows product manager.

In the long-delayed Windows upgrade, code-named Vista and expected to be released late next year, an RSS icon will appear in the Internet Explorer Web browser to make it easy for people to find, much like Apple Computer Inc. has done with its Safari browser.

Vista will store all data downloaded to a computer via RSS in a single place. It will maintain a central list of all of a computer user’s RSS subscriptions, from Web log entries to photos pulled from an online family picture gallery.

It will include a feature called simple list extensions that will let Web sites use RSS to publish lists of content that users can subscribe to, like a weekly run-down of chart-topping songs or an online gift registry.

Microsoft will make the list extensions technology available for free through a “creative commons” license, which lets the company retain some intellectual property rights while encouraging broader use of the technology.

Joe Wilcox, an analyst with Jupiter Research, said Microsoft’s foray into RSS is reminiscent of its rush to capture its share of the burgeoning Web browser market in the mid-1990s.

“With the World Wide Web, we had this vast informational system that came along where Windows was not required,” Wilcox said. “That posed a potentially serious threat to Microsoft’s Windows franchise. They responded by making Internet Explorer part of the operating system.”

Microsoft may argue that its RSS push is about improving technology for developers, content providers and consumers, Wilcox said, but “it’s also, I believe, responding to a potential competitive threat.”

Having RSS built into Vista could pose a serious threat to companies that sell RSS readers that siphon data from the Internet. But Kidd contends that Microsoft isn’t out to put anyone out of business.

RSS Feeds Can Increase Your Sales

October 14th, 2008

RSS feeds are reshaping how we access information online. In the past, when you wanted to know when your favorite information site had some new information on it, you had to go visit the website, wait for it to load, get distracted, etc. With the growing popularity of RSS feeds however, this is no longer necessary.

One ingenious use of RSS feeds is to get your customers to subscribe to an RSS feed on the latest products you offer. The latest sales for the month, news related to the products and services you offer and more. Using an RSS feed, a customer can know exactly when you post new information online without wasting time or having to wade through information that they aren’t interested in. Keeping yourself in front of your customer will result in more sales.

An RSS feed for your coupons

FindSavings.com for instance offers their visitors the ability to subscribe to RSS Feeds for coupon deals being offered by the favorite brand name stores. Whenever a new sale or rebate is posted, the customer is notified via their RSS news aggregator, their browser or their online reader. Getting the sale into the hands of the customer right away increases the chance that a sale is made.

RSS feeds bypass nasty spam filters

Every day it seems that email spam is growing. It has gotten so bad that the usefulness of email as a communication medium has been greatly compromised. Because of this volume of spam, as much as 85% of your email messages may not get through to your customers. Using RSS feeds, you can achieve 100% delivery effectively bypassing traditional spam filters.

RSS gives your customers exactly what they want

RSS feeds can be created on very specific topics. Like a laser beam, they can be aimed to give information on very specific niches. Narrowing the focus of a feed will generally increase the usefulness of the feed to the customer. It also increases the customers interest and trust in what the feed offers to them. All of this will result in more sales.

Want to us RSS feeds to increase your sales? Give your customers the information that they want and crave and your bottom line will thank them.

Snakeheads - A danger to our waterlife

October 12th, 2008

Snakehead fish became famous when wild and breeding specimens of this Asian predator was found in the United States. The fact that the Snakehead fish can grow larger than one metre and is highly adapted to low-oxygen waters and seasonal droughts naturally made the newspapers print article after article about this huge vicious predator fish that can breathe oxygen from the air and travel vast distances on land. The Snakehead is however not a ferocious baby-eater or pet dog attacker. There is a more sensible reason behind the Snakehead bans that were eventually issued by many of the U.S. states. Since the Snakehead is a very capable predator that is not native to the U.S. fauna, it might severely disrupt the ecosystem in regions where it is introduced. It can for instance compete with American predators for food or pose a treat to already endangered species that it perceives as prey.

Snakeheads are also known as Channa fish since they belong to the family Channa. The family Channa contains a wide range of different Snakehead species, e.g. Channa nox (Night Snakehead ), Channa asiatica (Chinese Snakehead) and Channa amphibeus (Chel Snakehead). Their native habitats are found in Asia and Africa. Another name for Snakehead fish is Frankenfish. It is possible to keep Snakeheads in aquariums, but you should always find out how large the Snakehead species that you are interested in will grow before you buy it. Snakeheads grow very fast and some species will grow larger than one meter, which makes them unsuitable for most hobbyist aquariums. It is believed that the wild and breeding Snakeheads that were found in the United States originated from Snakeheads that had been released by their owners when the Snakeheads grew to large for their aquarium or when they required more food than the aquarists was willing to pay for. In Asia, the Snakehead is a very popular food fish and another rumor tells the story about the Asian immigrant that imported a Snakehead to the United States to prepare a traditional Asian remedy for his sick sister. The sister did however recover before the fish reached him, and he deicide to spare its life and release it into the wild.

The Snakehead craze began in 2002 when a fisherman caught a Snakehead in Crofton. He practiced catch and release, but since he didn’t recognize the fish he had caught he photographed it before he put it back into the water. He brought the photo to a government office in Annapolis, Maryland where it was identified as a Northern Snakehead - Channa argus. The Crofton pond was examined and it didn’t take long before another adult Snakehead was found. One moth later, six immature Channa argus was discovered in the same pond, which proved that the Snakeheads liked the Maryland environment well enough not only to survive, but to form breathing populations as well. Biologists determined that it was very unlikely that the immature Snakeheads were aquarium breed, since they were no larger than 5 centimeters (2 inches). During July 2002, more than 100 small and immature Snakeheads were removed from the Crofton pond.

The Maryland authorities launched a two-step process that they hoped would eradicate the Snakeheads from the Maryland fauna. Two potent herbicides were introduced to the Crofton pond, and the decaying plant material soon caused the oxygen levels to drop significantly. During the second part of the eradication process, piscicide aiming directly at the fish were used and large amounts of dead fish were removed from the waters. Since Snakeheads can breathe oxygen from the air and wiggle their way over land, the whole region around the Crofton pond was observed but not escaping Snakeheads were spotted. Biologists were afraid that Snakeheads would manage to escape to a nearby river - the Little Patuxent River that is located only 23 meters (75 feet) from the Crofton pond. The Little Patuxent River was explored, but no Snakeheads were found. After a few weeks, the water quality in the Crofton pond returned to normal.

Since this first discovery in Maryland, more Snakeheads have however been found in several American states. In Asia, Snakeheads inhabit quagmires, slow moving waters and densely grown puddles and ponds where they feed chiefly on fish, crustaceans and insects. Similar habitats with suitable prey exist in many parts of the United States, and the Snakehead could therefore become a permanent part of the fauna and cause severe disruption or the ecosystems. Wild Snakeheads have already been found in California, Florida, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine and Hawaii. In Florida and California, the populations were established and breeding.

The Spirituality of Pigeons!

October 11th, 2008

I was walking down the street the other day, walking around the pigeons and saying “good morning” to them when it dawned on me just how precious they are to the lives of city slickers.

How many of us have a dislike for these feathered creatures? I often see children chasing pigeons round in circles until they fly away. Once, when I was walking down a street in Oxford, I saw a very smartly dressed man, step down off the curb to chase a pigeon a few feet down the road! Why is it we have such an attitude towards these birds of nature? You don’t often see people chasing black birds or robins away.

I have come to understand pigeons as being a very precious part of urban life. In places where office blocks and apartments are replacing trees and grass, pigeons still roam. They don’t hang around the rubbish dumps or scavenge through our bins. They clean our streets of the food we clumsily drop. They tidy up the mess we leave.

No matter how many people chase them, scare them, are rude to them or even try to run them over, pigeons are still there reminding us that nature is all around. I feel our attitude as a nation is being reflected onto the pigeons of England, yet these creatures still give us respect, trust and friendship. Apparently, it is lucky to have a bird excrete on your shoulder, or so the tale goes! Why would it not be lucky unless these birds are giving us a message?

But what is this message? Well, why not ask the pigeons?! Next time you’re walking down the road and you see a pigeon, greet them and ask what it is they are trying to tell you. You may have a pleasant reply!

Ten Steps To A Well Optimized Website - Step 4: Content Optimization

October 7th, 2008

Welcome to part four in this search engine positioning series. Last week we discussed the importance of the structure of your website and the best practices for creating an easily spidered and easily read site. In part four we will discuss content optimization.

This is perhaps the single most important aspect of ranking your website highly on the search engines. While all of the factors covered in this series will help get your website into the top positions, it is your content that will sell your product or service and it is your content that the search engines will be reading when they take their “snapshot” of your site and determine where it should be placed in relation to the other billions of pages on the Internet.

Over this series we will cover the ten key aspects to a solid search engine positioning campaign.

The Ten Steps We Will Go Through Are:

Step Four - Content Optimization

There are aspects of the optimization process that gain and lose importance. Content optimization is no exception to this. Through the many algorithm changes that take place each year, the weight given to the content on your pages rises and falls. Currently incoming links appear to supply greater advantage than well-written and optimized content. So why are we taking an entire article in this series to focus on the content optimization?

The goal for anyone following this series is to build and optimize a website that will rank well on the major search engines and, more difficult and far more important, hold those rankings through changes in the search engine algorithms. While currently having a bunch of incoming links from high PageRank sites will do well for you on Google you must consider what will happen to your rankings when the weight given to incoming links drops, or how your website fares on search engines other than Google that don’t place the same emphasis on incoming links.

While there are many characteristics of your content that are in the algorithmic calculations, there are a few that consistently hold relatively high priority and thus will be the focus of this article. These are:

  1. Heading Tags

  2. Special Text (bold, colored, etc.)

  3. Inline Text Links

  4. Keyword Density

Heading Tags

The heading tag (for those who don’t already know) is code used to specify to the visitor and to the search engines what the topic is of your page and/or subsections of it. You have 6 predefined heading tags to work with ranging from to .

By default these tags appear larger than standard text in a browser and are bold. These aspects can be adjusted using the font tags or by using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

Due to their abuse by unethical webmasters and SEO’s, the weight given to heading tags is not what it could be however the content between these tags is given increased weight over standard text. There are rules to follow with the use of heading tags that must be adhered to. If you use heading tags irresponsibly you run the risk of having your website penalized for spam even though the abuse may be unintentional.

When using your heading tags try to follow these rules:

  • Never use the same tag twice on a single page

  • Try to be concise with your wording

  • Use heading tags only when appropriate. If bold text will do then go that route

  • Don’t use CSS to mask heading tags

Never use the same tag twice on a single page. While the tags holds the greatest weight of the entire heading tags, its purpose is to act as the primary heading of the page. If you use it twice you are obviously not using it to define the main topic of the page. If you need to use another heading tag use the tag. After that the tag and so on. Generally I try never to use more than 2 heading tags on a page.

Try to be concise with your wording. If you have a 2 keyword phrase that you are trying to target and you make a heading that is 10 words long then your keyword phrase only makes up about 20% of the total verbiage. If you have a 4-word heading on the other hand you would then have a 50% density and increased priority given to the keyword phrase you are targeting.

Use heading tags only when appropriate. If bold text will do then go that route. I have seen sites with heading tags all over the place. If overused the weight of the tags themselves are reduced with decreasing content and “priority” being given to different phrases at various points in the content. If you have so much great content that you feel you need to use many heading tags you should consider dividing the content up into multiple pages, each with its own tag and keyword target possibilities. For the most part, rather than using additional heading tags, bolding the content will suffice. The sizing will be kept the same as your usual text and it will stand out to the reader as part of the text but with added importance.

Don’t use CSS to mask heading tags. This one just drives me nuts and is unnecessary. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) serve many great functions. They can be used to define how a site functions, looks and feels however they can also be used to mislead search engines and visitors alike. Each tags has a default look and feel. It is fine to use CSS to adjust this somewhat to fit how you want your site to look. What is not alright is to adjust the look and feel to mislead search engines. It is a simple enough task to define in CSS that your heading should appear as regular text. Some unethical SEO’s will also then place their style sheet in a folder that is hidden from the search engine spiders. This is secure enough until your competitors look at the cached copy of your page (and they undoubtedly will at some point) see that you have hidden heading tags and report you to the search engines as spamming. It’s an unnecessary risk that you don’t need to take. Use your headin!

gs properly and you’ll do just fine.

Special Text

Special text (as it is used here) is any content on your page that is set to stand out from the rest. This includes bold, underlined, colored, highlighted, sizing and italic. This text is given weight higher than standard content and rightfully so. Bold text, for example, is generally used to define sub-headings (see above), or to pull content out on a page to insure the visitor reads it. The same can be said for the other “special text” definitions.

Search engines have thus been programmed to read this as more important than the rest of the content and will give it increased weight. For example, on our homepage we begin the content with “Beanstalk Search Engine Positioning …” and have chosen to bold this text. This serves two purposes. The first is to draw the eye to these words and further reinforce the “brand”. The second purpose (and it should always be the second) is to add weight to the “Search Engine Positioning” portion of the name. It effectively does both.

Reread your content and, if appropriate for BOTH visitors and search engines, use special text when it will help draw the eye to important information and also add weight to your keywords. This does not mean that you should bold every instance of your targeted keywords nor does it mean that you should avoid using special text when it does not involve your keywords. Common sense and a reasonable grasp of sales and marketing techniques should be your guide in establishing what should and should not be drawn out with “special text”.

Inline Text Links

Inline text links are links added right into text in the verbiage of your content. For example, in this article series I may make reference to past articles in the series. Were I to refer to the article on keyword selection rather than simple making a simple reference to it as I just have it might be better to write it as, “Were I to refer to the article on keyword selection rather …” (this instance of “keyword selection” is mean to be an inline link to http://www.beanstalk-inc.com/articles/search-engine-positioning/keywords.htm however limitations in the article submission process do not make this possible)

Like special text this serves two purposes. The first is to give the reader a quick and easy way to find the find the information you are referring to. The second purpose of this technique is to give added weight to this phrase for the page on which the link is located and also to give weight to the target page.

While this point is debatable, there is a relatively commonly held belief that inline text links are given more weight that a text link which stands alone. If we were to think like a search engine this makes sense. If the link occurs within the content area then chances are it is highly relevant to the content itself and the link should be counted with more strength than a link placed in a footer simply to get a spider through the site.

Link “special text” this should only be employed if it helps the visitor navigate your site. An additional benefit to inline text links is that you can help direct your visitors to the pages you want them on. Rather than simply relying on visitors to use your navigation bar as you are hoping they will, with inline text links you can link to the internal pages you are hoping they will get to such as your services page, or product details.

Keyword Density

For those of you who have never heard the term “keyword density” before, it is the percentage of your total content that is made up of your targeted keywords. There is much debate in forums, SEO chat rooms and the like as to what the “optimal” keyword density might be. Estimates seem to range from 3% to 10%.

While I would be the first to admit that logic dictate that indeed there is an optimal keyword density. Knowing that search engines operate on mathematical formulas implies that this aspect of your website must have some magic number associated with it that will give your content the greatest chance of success.

With this in mind there are three points that you should consider:

  1. You do not work for Google or Yahoo! or any of the other major search engines (and if you do you’re not the target audience of this article). You will never know 100% what this “magic number” is.

  2. Even if you did know what the optimal keyword density was today, would you still know it after the next update? Like other aspects of the search engine algorithm, optimal keyword densities change. You will be chasing smoke if you try to constantly have the optimal density and chances are you will hinder your efforts more than help by constantly changing the densities of your site.

  3. The optimal keyword density for one search engine is not the same as it is for another. Chasing the density of one may very well ruin your efforts on another.

So what can you do? Your best bet is to simple place your targeted keyword phrase in your content as often as possible while keeping the content easily readable by a live visitor. Your goal here is not to sell to search engines, it is to sell to people. I have seen sites that have gone so overboard in increasing their keyword density that the content itself reads horribly. If you are simply aware of the phrase that you are targeting while you write your content then chances are you will attain a keyword density somewhere between 3 and 5%. Stay in this range and, provided that the other aspects of the optimization process are in place, you will rank well across many of the search engines.

Also remember when you’re looking over your page that when you’re reading it the targeted phrase may seem to stand out as it’s used more than any other phrase on the page and may even seem like it’s a bit too much. Unless you’ve obviously overdone it (approached the 10% rather than 5% end of the spectrum) it’s alright for this phrase to stand out. This is the phrase that the searcher was searching for. When they see it on the page it will be a reminder to them what they are looking for an seeing it a few times will reinforce that you can help them find the information they need to make the right decision.

Final Notes

In an effort to increase keyword densities, unethical webmasters will often use tactics such as hidden text, extremely small font sizes, and other tactics that basically hide text from a live visitor that they are providing to a search engines. Take this advice, write quality content, word it well and pay close attention to your phrasing and you will do well. Use unethical tactics and your website may rank well in the short term but once one of your competitors realizes what you’re doing you will be reported and your website may very well get penalized. Additionally, if a visitor realizes that you’re simply “tricking” the search engines they may very well decide that you are not the type of company they want to deal with; one that isn’t concerned with integrity but rather one that will use any trick to try to get at their money. Is this the message you want to send?

Next Week

Next week in part five of our “Ten Steps To an Optimized Website” series we will be covering internal links strategies and best practices. This will cover everything from image links and scripts to inline and basic text links.

How I Suddenly Stumbled Onto No.1 In Google and Yahoo Without Search Engine Optimization - So What?

October 7th, 2008

Sometimes, the search engines act really strange. And this
story will prove how I’ve got top positions (80% on no.1)
into the major search engines - such Google, Yahoo!, MSN -
without lifting a finger! What is REALLY strange? I did not
optimize my page!

But first allow me to give you some backgrounds. Couple of
time ago I buy a domain name and hosted into a very reliable
server. At that time I intended to build a mini-site around
a very powerful service which was released at that period.

I can’t remember why at that time I was very busy. So I just
write a simple page, insert a few links to the program I
promote and upload it. Everything it don’t takes me more
than 1/2 hours.

That was the beginning. The page stays there for around a
month. I remember I post 3-4 messages into some forums and
link them to my newest mini-site. That was ALL I can do at
that time. But one day I decided to make a little change.

I login to my hosting account and take a look at the stats.
Surprise! I saw traffic from Google and Yahoo! What??? I
didn’t submit my website to the search engines!

What the hell is going on?

I open my WebPosition Gold 2 software and check my website.
Geez, my site was there, on no.1 for 3 keyphrases in Google,
Yahoo!, and MSN, and take no.1 through no.5 spots on other 2-3
major search engines.

I couldn’t belive that was happening to my website, but the
evidence was there. It was very hard to believe that I’ve
got no.1 places into the search engine without doing a
little optimization. Because my friend, THAT page was NOT
optimize for the search engines!

So I said to myself: “That won’t last forever. I give one
week and I’ll saw my website going down because it has no
support for all those positions!”. Well, it didn’t last a
week. After only 5 days, my website was vanish. Not a single
position into the top 10, not even found on search engines!

OK, what it was it was. For only couple of days (perhaps
hours) I was on no.1 spots. It means that I can do it again
IF I’ll do everything by the book. Despite of general
opinion, search engine optimization it’s not so hard. If you
know what to do, if you take your time to study the right
stuff and have patience, there’s impossible not to rich the
position you desire.

That was fine, but I also plan to go into vacation with my
family. It was on July, the weather was great, and we plan
this vacation from a long time. My son dream about this
vacation, so I said, “Why not? Let’s do it!” You know the
rest: spend a lot of time for making reservations, baggage,
prepare the car for the trip, etcetera. Less time for me to
build my website.

So I left my mini-site and going to vacation. Two weeks
later when I come back, after settle down the things into
the house, I first check my emails. Oh no! - up to 300
emails waiting for me. Check couple of them, get VERRY angry
(you must read below website hosting story!) and then take a
ride to see my stats.

Total SURPRISE! My website was AGAIN on the no.1 for Google,
Yahoo!, MSN… plus positions between no.1 and no.4 on
others!

This is my real story. If you spent some time on search
engines like I do it, you know this is weird. Not because I
was again on top, it’s weird I’ll get to the top WITHOUT
optimization.

Now let me tell you more about this page:

- total words: 864

- links to the affiliate program I promote: 4 (position them
from middle to the bottom of the page)

- use the keyphrase mainly from middle to the bottom of the
page

- use only a “.gif” picture for my signature (no keywords
for “ALT” tag)

- headers at the top of page: 3 (first use font size no.3,
the next use H1, and the last H4 tag). NO keywords or
keyphrases inside!

- first appear of the keyphrase is on “word” no.100, the
next on no.283 (from 864!)

- number of times my keyphrase appear on the body of page: 5

- number of times my keyphrase appear on the links: 3

- my keyphrase is build on 3 words and a number

- no use of META tags

- layout: use 2 tables to design my page, one in other

- couple of short Java scripts at the bottom of page

- use six bullets on the middle of page, two P.S., and a
line of copyright, address, and contact info at the bottom
of page

- it was uploaded as a home/ index page, NO keywords into my
domain name

- I DID NOT announce this page/ website to the search
engines!

If I’m right, THIS is not an optimized page. And remember:
depending on HOW people will search and what keywords/
keyphrases will use, my competition is between 32 and
2,750,000 and continue to grow!

I hope not a single SEO webmaster will read this issue.
Because, in a way, it’s outrageous! I didn’t do anything to
deserve this position. I know people try harder to get top
positions. They work a lot to optimize pages, to get
relevant links, build content to become search engine
friendly, and many other things.

This time it’s not my case. But there is a hard lesson here
and I want to shear it with you. These days Netpreneurs
likes a lot to build one page mini-sites. Those things works
and I prove it to you. Beyond the SEO problems and the no.1
spots on major engines, there is something which only a few
people will ask you: “So what if you have a no.1
position(’s)?”

Most people will aspect a hoard of targeted visitors ready
to use their credit cards to buy something they offer,
probably their own product/ services or something from an
affiliate program or joint venture. Sometimes this is
completely wrong! If your keywords are not “hot”, chances
are that your no.1 spots will drive only couple of visitors.
Not to mention sales…

The real Netpreneurs knows that. So if you want to build a
mini-site in the next days, think about how many people will
come and BUY what you promote. To help you, here’s a 6 step
plan to build a profitable mini-site:

–> Step no.1: find a “dream” product or service with an
affiliate program (or joint venture partner) which pay well.

–> Step no.2: determine if you can use “hot” keywords to
promote the program. Use a tool like WordTracker
(http://www.internetmarketingprofitscenter.com/wordtracker/),
the best service on the Internet for such a job.

Find keywords/ keyphrases with low supply (little
competition) but have a higher demand (appear on many
searches around the ‘Net).

–> Step no.3: get a relevant domain name and host it into a
reliable server (try to insert keyword into the name of
domain, or think at something close to the product).

–> Step no.4: start building 3-5 pages (build a theme
around the product), do SEO and announce your site to the
major search engines.

–> Step no.5: concentrate your efforts on getting links
from top related websites.

–> Step no.6: once you rich on top and get back your
initial investment and something more, determine your ROI
and start using pay-per-clicks search engines to boots your
profits.

If you follow EXACTLY these steps, chances are that your
mini-site will jump on top of search engines and will REALLY
drive that particular targeted visitor eager to buy what you
promote! Otherwise, you will lamentably fail.

Final thoughts on my search engine story:

By all odds I regret my page is not what I first intend to
do. Because, I have to tell you this, my page was just throw
away into the cyber-space! The idea was to have something on
my index/ home page until I build my website. Has NOTHING to
do with my theme idea. That’s why I NEVER think at
optimization.

But I don’t regret too much that I’ll have to delete it
soon. I learn something very useful: no matter how many top
positions you have on the search engines, unless you write a
very compelling web page, chances are that you’ll have poor
visitors. And poor visitors means no sales, no ROI.

(Chances are that, at the moment you read this article, my
“magic” web page simply dropped from no.1 positions or I
delete it. So don’t bother to spend time on find it. You
have to believe me! And if you don’t, I’ll have to PROOF on
my computer, as a “.gif” picture.)

October 7th, 2008

Craft Queen, DIY fanatic and interior designer - Danielle Proud, has been given the challenge to revive the nation’s love of carpet flooring with ‘Fun on the Floor’, a new campaign, that redefines the art of carpeting, through the latest and greatest new ideas in fluffy carpet flooring.

Danielle Proud believes that “Fashion and Interior trends often go hand in hand and as an interior designer, it’s really exciting to be working with carpet again for years the focus has been on alternative flooring choices and in terms of pattern, wallpaper designs.” For example “Stripes can be put to stunning use in flooring and are a great design tool. They can be used to elongate rooms, change perspective, and bring together much wider colour palettes than you’d usually be able to use.

The first phase of the campaign was launched on the July 31st with the opening of a unique house in central London designed and curated by Interior Designer and Sunday Times Style Columnist Danielle Proud.

The Fun on the Floor House will act as a showroom through a medley of creatively designed rooms featuring carpet flooring in stunning, creative and fun ways based on current interior trends and popular carpet choices. The house will be open by invitation to trade, national, consumer, regional journalists as well as key influencers such as interior designers, production companies for a free shoot location up until December.

Following the launch of the Fun on the Floor House, an eye-catching press and outdoor advertising campaign will launch in the autumn 2008 and will cover billboards and vans nationwide. Showcasing carpets as something that is a little bit different and for people who want to make their homes stand out whilst still remaining contemporary.
